KTZ & Restoran De’Champion Duck, Kepong

Some of us met up to have roast duck and char siu at De’Champion Duck, Kepong for brunch today.

Oh, and we have a new member to the club too… put your hands together and welcome K, aka Barkley.

20130915-185851.jpg
Here we are!!

We had: 1 roast duck, char siu, spicy soup.

6 ladies polished off 1 whole roast duck today. Not a bad accomplishment at all.

Today’s eat.

20130915-190430.jpg
And drinks. 5 sa le shuin mui (ambra with sour plum) & 1 white coffee.

Then it was off to KTZ Kepong for dessert. This is the original KTZ outlet, according to SW. The rest of the KTZ outlets around town are merely branches.

So off we headed, since its located within the vicinity of De’Champion Duck (about 5 minutes drive away).

Restoran De’Champion Duck, Kepong

Look at all that char siu (Chinese-style roasted pork) *droools*…

20130911-223731.jpg
Huge blowup of an article written about them in The Star newspaper.

20130911-223956.jpg
The menu. Roast goose is RM 188 per bird, btw. Roast piglet is also RM 188 per baby pig. Just in case anyone was wondering.

20130911-224319.jpg
The rice is yummy. It appears to have been steeped in essence de duck and that’s what makes it yummy.

20130911-224511.jpg
And very good chili.

20130911-224608.jpg
The char siu is the melts-in-your-mouth kind. You could eat this and float all the way to char siu heaven on one bite (I kid you not).

20130911-224722.jpg
Sang choi (lettuce cooked with oyster sauce and fried onions). Must have veggies with every meal, you know…

20130911-224920.jpg
Some spicy soup with ham choy (salted vegetable) and meat.

20130911-225135.jpg

20130911-225622.jpg
And a whole pile of bones left behind. This is just from one person!

Total bill was just below RM 140, which worked out to RM 19 per person. That’s really reasonable.

Trip To Visit President (Day 3)

Last day of our trip so we didn’t start so early.

20130904-103843.jpg
Sad sad sad 😧😥

Next stop: Biscuit collection from Him Heang.

20130904-104204.jpg
This is only SOME of our purchases… SC’s stuff is not even pictured!

And after we loaded the car, the boot was quite full.

20130904-104345.jpg

Him Heang is usually one of the last stops you make when you’re in Penang. This is to ensure that you bring back freshly-baked biscuits.

After the massive biscuit collection (which came to some RM 500+ for 4 of us!!), we set off to have brunch with President and say our goodbyes for this trip.

20130904-105224.jpg
With crispy lard. We likey!!

20130904-105342.jpg
And, drinks.

We left Penang around 1.30pm and everyone reached home by 8.30pm!!! Massive jams in KL because we got caught in the after-work traffic.

It was a great trip, and we’re now in talks for another similar trip… to some other place.

End of Day 3.

Trip To Visit President (Day 2)

Day 2 in Penang. Started off early as today’s agenda was to go hunt for murals.

First stop: Breakfast.

Where: One Corner Cafe.
Jalan Bawasah, George Town, Penang.

This place has one of the best prawn mee in town. But the wait for your order can take up to an hour. We were lucky to get ours within 30 minutes.

IMG_5164IMG_5167
The chopsticks were said to make the photo look messy, so we removed them for a retake. This time, all spoons must face in one direction!

IMG_5149
Chee cheong fun.

IMG_5160
Dry lor mee. Not sure how they meant this as dry. It looks quite soupy to me.

IMG_5146
Or kueh (yam cake) with the 3 tones of sauces…

IMG_5156

20130903-173159.jpg
And drinks. Seems like everything today is 3-toned 😀

And that’s just breakfast 😀

We arranged with President to meet us downtown. While waiting for her, another round of yum cha at a mamak. Someone had a roti kosong too 😀

Then on to the mural hunt!

Next food stop: Ming Xiang Tai for snack break of herbal tea & pastries.

Where: Ming Xiang Tai
26 Gat Lebuh Armenian (at Lebuh Victoria), George Town, Penang.

After lunch, back to hunting murals. This time we didn’t stop until we left the place. No time to even stop for food :D.

Then it was off to Chowrasta Market for cendol / ais kacang & Penang laksa!

Where: Joo Hooi Cafe
475 Jalan Penang (at Keng Kwee St)
George Town, Penang

IMG_5559
Mmmmm… cendol and ais kacang.

20130904-002616.jpg
And Penang assam laksa!!! Slurps.

Had our dinner at Soon Lai Seafood, highly recommended by President. And now you know why she is the President. Because she knows all the good food places 😀

IMG_5580
And crabs! S ate most of the crabs, until President called her Crab Face lol!

20130904-003953.jpg
Look at all that crab egg…

Dropped off President after dinner, went in to say hello to her family & her doggie, Joey, then we headed back to the hotel for some much-needed sleep. Again, beyond caring if anyone snored or talked in their sleep.

End of Day 2.
